## What Timecard does

- Tracks time per app and per website on a Mac, splitting browsers into real sites
- Keeps the history forever and imports the weeks macOS Screen Time already kept
- Prints the day as a timecard from the notch every evening
- Daily limits for apps and websites that block when time runs out; Apple Intelligence on the Mac decides requests for more time
- Tracks AI coding usage for Claude Code, Codex, Cursor, opencode and Gemini CLI, with an MCP server agents can query
- Wrapped (2.3): plays back the year in screen time like Spotify Wrapped, gives a position for the year (like Night Shift Maker) and prints an annual card from the notch; worked out on the Mac, nothing uploaded. [Timecard Wrapped](https://www.timecardmac.site/wrapped)

## Free tools

- [Screen Time Calculator](https://www.timecardmac.site/tools/screen-time-calculator): Free screen time calculator. Enter your daily phone and computer time to see the years you'll spend on screens, how you compare to the average adult, and what an hour less gives back.
The average adult spends 6 hours 38 minutes a day on internet-connected screens: 3h 46m on a phone and 2h 52m on a computer. At that pace, a 30-year-old will spend about 13 more years of their life looking at screens.
- [Time Card Calculator](https://www.timecardmac.site/tools/time-card-calculator): Free time card calculator. Enter clock-in and clock-out times with breaks to total your weekly hours in hours:minutes and decimal, with overtime past 40 hours and pay. Printable.
Enter when you clocked in and out each day, and your unpaid break. The calculator totals each day and the week, in hours:minutes and in decimal hours for payroll, works out overtime past 40 hours at time and a half, and prints a clean time card.
- [Military Time Converter](https://www.timecardmac.site/tools/military-time-converter): Free military time converter. Convert standard AM/PM time to 24-hour military time and back, see the current time in military time, and use the full military time chart.
Military time runs from 0000 at midnight to 2359. For times after noon, add 12 to the hour: 2:30 PM is 14:30, written 1430 and said "fourteen thirty". For 1300 and later, subtract 12 to get back to standard time.
- [AI Token Counter](https://www.timecardmac.site/tools/ai-token-counter): Free AI token counter. Paste text to count tokens with the OpenAI o200k tokenizer used by GPT-4o and GPT-5, estimate Claude tokens, and see what the prompt costs on each model.
A token is a chunk of text a model reads, often part of a word. In English, one token is about 4 characters, and 100 tokens is about 75 words. Paste your text to count it exactly with OpenAI's o200k tokenizer and see what it costs on today's models.
- [Hours Between Two Times](https://www.timecardmac.site/tools/hours-between-two-times): Free calculator for the time between two times. Enter a start and end time to get the hours and minutes between them, in decimal too, with breaks and overnight times handled.
To find the time between two times, subtract the start from the end. 9:15 AM to 5:45 PM is 8 hours 30 minutes. If the end is earlier than the start, the time crossed midnight, so add 24 hours: 10 PM to 6 AM is 8 hours.
- [Work Hours in a Year](https://www.timecardmac.site/tools/work-hours-in-a-year): How many work hours are in a year? 2026 has 261 weekdays, or 2,088 hours at 8 hours a day. Calculate your own working hours and days after holidays and time off, and your yearly pay.
There are 2,088 work hours in 2026: 261 weekdays at 8 hours a day. Take off the 11 US federal holidays and it's 2,000 hours. A standard 40-hour week over 52 weeks is 2,080 hours, the figure most salary conversions use.
- [Decimal Hours Calculator](https://www.timecardmac.site/tools/decimal-hours-calculator): Free decimal hours calculator. Convert hours and minutes to decimal hours for payroll and timesheets, and decimal hours back to hours and minutes, with a minutes-to-decimal chart.
To convert minutes to decimal hours, divide the minutes by 60. 45 minutes is 45 ÷ 60 = 0.75, so 7 hours 45 minutes is 7.75 hours. To go back, multiply the decimal part by 60.
- [Time Blocking Planner](https://www.timecardmac.site/tools/time-blocking-planner): Free time blocking planner. Block out your day for deep work, meetings, admin and breaks, see the hours each one gets, and print the plan. A free time blocking template that saves in your browser.
Time blocking means giving every hour of the day a job before the day starts: deep work from 9 to 11, email at 11, meetings after lunch. Add your blocks below, see how many hours each kind of work gets, and print the plan.
- [Your Life in Weeks](https://www.timecardmac.site/tools/life-in-weeks): See your life in weeks. Enter your birthday to fill in every week you've lived on an 80-year life calendar, count the weeks you have left, and see how many go to screens.
An 80-year life is about 4,174 weeks. Below, each row is one year of 52 weeks and each square is one week. Enter your birthday to fill in the weeks you've already lived. Seen this way, a week is easy to count and hard to waste.
- [YouTube Watch Time Calculator](https://www.timecardmac.site/tools/youtube-watch-time-calculator): How much time have you spent on YouTube? Drop your Google Takeout watch history to see your total hours, hours per year, top channels and when you watch. Runs in your browser, nothing is uploaded.

- [Spotify Listening Time Calculator](https://www.timecardmac.site/tools/spotify-listening-time-calculator): See your total Spotify listening time from your Spotify data: hours and minutes listened, top artists and podcasts, and when you listen, for any year. Free, nothing is uploaded.

## Comparisons

- [Timecard vs Screen Time](https://www.timecardmac.site/vs/screen-time): Screen Time comes free with every Mac and is fine for a quick look at today. But it keeps about four weeks of history, shows websites mainly for Safari, and its website limits only work in Safari. Timecard tracks every app and site in every major browser, keeps it forever, and blocks over-limit sites in Chrome and Arc too.
- [Timecard vs RescueTime](https://www.timecardmac.site/vs/rescuetime): RescueTime tracks time across Mac, Windows, Linux and phones, with focus sessions, goals and team plans, from $7 a month billed yearly. Timecard is a Mac app you pay for once. It tracks every app and website on your Mac, keeps the data there, blocks over-limit apps and sites, and adds your AI coding usage, with no account.
- [Timecard vs Timing](https://www.timecardmac.site/vs/timing): Timing is a mature Mac time tracker built for billing: projects, timesheets, AI summaries and team plans, on a subscription from $11 a month, billed yearly. Timecard is for knowing where your day went rather than billing it: automatic tracking, daily limits that block, AI coding usage and a printed card each evening, for a one-time price.
- [Timecard vs Rize](https://www.timecardmac.site/vs/rize): Rize is an AI time tracker for Mac and Windows with focus sessions, a distraction blocker, client reporting and team plans, from $9.99 a month billed yearly. Timecard runs entirely on your Mac for a one-time price, and its limits block until you close the site or make a case for more time.
- [Timecard vs Toggl Track](https://www.timecardmac.site/vs/toggl-track): Toggl Track is built around timers you start and stop, and reports teams use for billable hours, with a free plan and paid plans from $9 per user a month, billed yearly. Timecard needs no timers: it records every app and website on your Mac automatically, and keeps it on your Mac.
- [Timecard vs ActivityWatch](https://www.timecardmac.site/vs/activitywatch): ActivityWatch is a free, open-source tracker for Mac, Windows, Linux and Android that keeps your data on your device. Timecard shares that privacy stance but is a native Mac app: websites in every browser without extensions, limits that block, AI coding usage, and your day printed each evening.
- [Timecard vs WakaTime](https://www.timecardmac.site/vs/wakatime): WakaTime tracks coding time through editor plugins, including AI adoption and spend for tools like Claude Code, Cursor, Copilot and Codex, and keeps it on its servers. Timecard reads the history AI tools already keep on your Mac, with no plugins and no account, and puts it next to everything else in your day.
- [Timecard vs Freedom](https://www.timecardmac.site/vs/freedom): Freedom blocks websites and apps on schedules across Mac, Windows, iPhone, Android and Chromebook, and doesn't track your activity. Timecard does the opposite first: it records every app and site on your Mac, then blocks one when its daily limit runs out.
- [Timecard vs Opal](https://www.timecardmac.site/vs/opal): Opal is a screen time app for iPhone, Android and Mac with blocking rules, focus timers and a Hard Mode you can't turn off. Pro is $99.99 a year. Timecard is Mac only and one-time, and pairs daily limits with a full record of every app and website.

- [Best screen time apps for Mac (2026)](https://www.timecardmac.site/best/screen-time-apps-for-mac): ten apps compared, each with what it does best
- [RescueTime vs Toggl Track](https://www.timecardmac.site/compare/rescuetime-vs-toggl-track): RescueTime records your apps and websites automatically in the background. Toggl Track is built around timers you start for each task. Both are subscriptions with team plans, so the real question is whether you want tracking you never think about, or hours you log on purpose.
- [RescueTime vs Freedom](https://www.timecardmac.site/compare/rescuetime-vs-freedom): These two do different jobs. RescueTime measures where your time goes and adds focus sessions that block distracting sites. Freedom doesn't track anything: it blocks sites and apps on schedules, across your computer and phone.
- [RescueTime vs Rize](https://www.timecardmac.site/compare/rescuetime-vs-rize): Both track your computer time automatically and sell team plans. RescueTime runs on more platforms, including Linux and phones. Rize focuses on Mac and Windows, with AI categorisation, a distraction blocker and client reports.

## FAQ

### How is Timecard different from Screen Time?
Screen Time is a page in System Settings and forgets after about four weeks. Timecard is a real app with a window and a menu bar readout, keeps your history forever in one file, splits browser time into real websites, ignores time you were away, and prints your day as a timecard every evening.

### Where does the data come from?
Timecard records which app is in front while it runs, the website in the front browser tab if you allow it, and when you step away. On first launch it can also import the roughly four weeks of app history macOS already kept, so it is full from the first minute.

### Can Timecard block apps and websites on Mac?
Yes. Set a daily limit on any app or website. At 80% the notch gives you a nudge, and when the time runs out Timecard blocks it: a site's tab goes blank, an app is covered. Close it, or ask for more time and say why. Apple Intelligence weighs your reason and the page, on your Mac. Works in Safari, Chrome, Arc, Dia, Brave, Edge, Vivaldi, Opera and Comet.

### Can it use the limits I set in Screen Time?
Yes. With Full Disk Access, Timecard picks up your Screen Time App Limits, including ones synced from your iPhone, and keeps them linked: change one in Screen Time and Timecard follows. It only reads them. Apple doesn't let other apps change Screen Time, so a limit you change in Timecard applies to Timecard, and it shows you where to change it in Screen Time too.

### Does it read what I type or what is on the page?
No. It never reads keystrokes, page contents or screenshots. For browsers it reads only the host name of the front tab, like github.com. When a daily limit runs out, it also reads that tab's title, so Ask for time knows what the page is.

### Does it slow my Mac down?
It checks the front app when it changes and looks at idle time every few seconds. It writes to one small SQLite file. You will not notice it.

### Which Macs does it run on?
Any Mac on macOS 14 Sonoma or later, Apple silicon or Intel. Macs with a notch get the card printed out of the notch; others print from the top of the screen.

### Is Timecard 2 a paid upgrade?
No. It's free for everyone who already has Timecard, and it installs itself like every other update.

### Which AI tools does it read?
Claude Code, Codex, Cursor, opencode and Gemini CLI, from the history each one already keeps on your Mac. Cursor no longer saves token counts locally, so for Cursor you see time and chats, not tokens.

### Does my AI history or my code leave my Mac?
No. Timecard reads usage numbers from those files: tokens, times, models and project folder names. It never reads your prompts or your code, and your AI history never leaves your Mac. Ask Timecard and the briefs run on Apple Intelligence on your Mac.

### How accurate is the API value?
Each request is priced at Anthropic's and OpenAI's published list prices, including cache reads and writes. It's what the same work would cost on the API, not what your plan bills, and you can set what you actually pay in Settings.

### What do I need for Ask Timecard?
macOS 26 with Apple Intelligence turned on. Everything else in Timecard 2 works on macOS 14 and later.

### What is Timecard Wrapped?
Your year on your Mac, played back like Spotify Wrapped: your total hours, your longest day, the app you never closed, when you peak, deep work, app switches, your AI coding year and a position for the year, like Night Shift Maker. It ends on an annual card you can print from the notch and share.

### When can I see my Wrapped?
On 2 December, when the year is wrapped: it counts 1 January to 1 December. The notch tells you once, at a quiet moment, and offers to print your annual card. Then open Wrapped in the sidebar and press Play, or say "Play my year" to Siri or Spotlight. Until then your year is sealed: the Wrapped page counts down, and Siri tells you how many days are left. Years gone by play any time.

### Does Wrapped need a full year of history?
No. It uses whatever Timecard has on file, including the weeks it imported from Screen Time, and says "so far" or "on file since" where it matters. Your annual card reprints with every day you add, until the year is wrapped on 2 December.

### Is my Wrapped uploaded anywhere?
No. Wrapped is worked out from the history in one file on your Mac. Nothing is uploaded, and the share image is made on your Mac when you ask for it.

### How much does it cost?
$5 once for the first 1,000 people, then $9 for the next 100, then $29. No subscription, and every update is included.

### Where do I download it again?
Anytime at timecardmac.site/download/Timecard.dmg, for a new Mac or a reinstall. The licence key in your Polar email unlocks it.

### Is there an account?
No. You buy a licence key and paste it into the app. There is nothing to sign in to.

### What if it is not for me?
Email us within 14 days for a full refund.

### What does Timecard send over the network?
Nothing about your day. It checks your licence key, the current price and for updates, and sends a few anonymous usage counts, like "a card was printed", that you can turn off in Settings › General.

### What is the average screen time for adults?
Adult internet users spend an average of 6 hours 38 minutes a day online: about 3 hours 46 minutes on phones and 2 hours 52 minutes on computers, according to DataReportal's Digital 2025 report, based on GWI survey data. TV that isn't streamed comes on top of that.

### How much screen time is too much for an adult?
There is no official daily limit for adults, because work screen time and leisure screen time are different things. A useful test is leisure time: if screens fill most of your free hours, or you pick up your phone without deciding to, that's a sign to cut back. Most people find their real number is higher than they guessed.

### How does the screen time calculator work?
It adds your daily phone and computer time, then multiplies it by the years you have left, using a US life expectancy of 79 years (CDC, 2024). The result is shown in years of round-the-clock time, plus the share of your waking hours, assuming 8 hours of sleep.

### How do I check my real screen time?
On iPhone, open Settings › Screen Time. On a Mac, macOS Screen Time shows a few weeks of app time but lumps every website under your browser. Timecard tracks every app and website on your Mac, keeps the history forever, and prints your day as a timecard each evening.

### Does this calculator save what I enter?
No. It runs entirely in your browser. Nothing is sent anywhere, and the numbers only go into the page's address so you can share your result.

### How do I calculate hours worked?
Subtract the clock-in time from the clock-out time, then subtract unpaid breaks. 9:00 to 17:30 with a 30-minute lunch is 8 hours 30 minutes, minus 30 minutes, which is 8 hours. Add the days together for the week.

### How do I calculate an overnight shift?
If the clock-out time is earlier than the clock-in time, the shift crossed midnight. Add 24 hours to the clock-out time before subtracting. 22:00 to 06:00 is 8 hours. The calculator does this for you.

### How is overtime calculated?
Under the US Fair Labor Standards Act, non-exempt employees earn at least time and a half for hours over 40 in a workweek. With a $20 rate, 45 hours pays 40 × $20 plus 5 × $30, which is $950. Some states also count daily overtime, so check local rules.

### Why convert hours to decimal for payroll?
Payroll multiplies hours by a rate, and that only works with decimals. 7 hours 45 minutes is 7.75 hours, not 7.45. The calculator shows both, so you can copy the decimal straight into payroll.

### Can I print the time card?
Yes. Press Print time card for a clean, single-page card with every day, the weekly total, overtime and pay. Your entries stay in this browser, so you can come back to the same week.

### How do I convert standard time to military time?
From midnight to 12:59 PM, write the hours and minutes as four digits: 7:05 AM is 0705 and 12:30 PM is 1230. From 1:00 PM on, add 12 to the hour: 3:45 PM is 1545. Midnight is 0000.

### How do I convert military time to standard time?
If the hour is 13 or more, subtract 12 and add PM: 1900 is 7:00 PM. From 0100 to 1159 it's the same time in the morning. 1200 to 1259 is 12 PM, and 0000 to 0059 is 12 AM.

### Is midnight 0000 or 2400?
Midnight at the start of a day is 0000. Some schedules write 2400 for midnight at the end of a day, so a shift that ends at midnight might read 1600 to 2400. Both are the same moment.

### How do you say military time out loud?
Say the four digits as two pairs: 1430 is "fourteen thirty". Whole hours use hundred: 0800 is "zero eight hundred" and 1900 is "nineteen hundred". The military adds "hours" at the end.

### Why do time clocks and timecards use military time?
There's no AM or PM to get wrong, and subtracting times is simpler. A shift from 0830 to 1715 is 8 hours 45 minutes, with no crossing from AM to PM to think about.

### What is a token?
Models read text in tokens, not words. Common words are one token, longer or rarer words split into several, and spaces and punctuation count too. OpenAI's rule of thumb for English is one token per 4 characters, or about 75 words per 100 tokens.

### Which tokenizer does this use?
o200k_base, the tokenizer OpenAI uses for GPT-4o, the o-series and GPT-5 models. Counts for those models are exact. It runs in your browser, so your text never leaves the page.

### Are Claude token counts exact?
No. Anthropic hasn't published Claude's tokenizer, so Claude counts here are an estimate from the same text. Claude usually counts somewhat more tokens than o200k for the same English. For an exact count, use Anthropic's token counting API.

### How is the cost worked out?
Tokens × the model's list price per million tokens, as input. Output is billed separately and usually costs several times more per token. Prices are list prices as of October 2026 and don't include caching discounts.

### How do I see what my AI coding actually costs?
Timecard reads the history Claude Code, Codex, Cursor, opencode and Gemini CLI keep on your Mac and adds up tokens and API value for every session, without uploading anything.

### How do I calculate the hours between two times?
Convert both to 24-hour time, subtract the start from the end, and borrow 60 minutes when the minutes go negative. 17:10 − 08:45 is 16:70 − 08:45, which is 8 hours 25 minutes.

### What if the time period crosses midnight?
Add 24 hours to the end time first. 22:30 to 06:15 becomes 22:30 to 30:15, which is 7 hours 45 minutes.

### How do I subtract a lunch break?
Work out the total time, then take off the break. 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM is 8 hours 30 minutes; minus a 30-minute lunch is 8 hours. Enter the break in the calculator and it does this for you.

### How do I write the result as a decimal?
Divide the minutes by 60. 8 hours 25 minutes is 8 + 25 ÷ 60 = 8.42 hours. The calculator shows both.

### How many work hours are in a year?
2,080 is the standard: 40 hours a week for 52 weeks. The exact number depends on the calendar. 2026 has 261 weekdays, so 2,088 hours at 8 hours a day, or 2,000 after the 11 US federal holidays.

### How many working days are in 2026?
261 weekdays, Monday to Friday. After the 11 US federal holidays it's 250. Take off your paid time off too, for example 15 days, and it's 235.

### How do I convert an hourly wage to a yearly salary?
Multiply the hourly rate by the hours you work in a year. At $25 an hour and 2,080 hours, that's $52,000. To go the other way, divide the salary by 2,080.

### How many hours does a full-time employee work in a year?
Full time is usually 40 hours a week, so 2,080 hours a year before holidays and vacation. With 11 holidays and 15 days off, a full-time employee works about 1,872 hours.

### How do I convert minutes to decimal hours?
Divide the minutes by 60. 15 minutes is 0.25 hours, 30 minutes is 0.5, 45 minutes is 0.75. Add the result to the whole hours: 3 hours 20 minutes is 3 + 20 ÷ 60 = 3.33 hours.

### How do I convert decimal hours to hours and minutes?
Keep the whole number as hours, then multiply the decimal part by 60 for minutes. 6.4 hours is 6 hours plus 0.4 × 60 = 24 minutes, so 6 hours 24 minutes.

### Is 7.30 hours the same as 7 hours 30 minutes?
No. 7.30 decimal hours is 7 hours 18 minutes. 7 hours 30 minutes is 7.5 hours. Mixing the two is the most common timesheet mistake, and it underpays every half hour.

### How many decimal places should payroll use?
Two is standard. Minutes that don't divide evenly by 60, like 20 minutes (0.333…), round to 0.33. Over a week the rounding difference is a few cents.

### What is time blocking?
A way to plan your day by assigning each hour a task or kind of work, instead of working from a to-do list. Cal Newport describes it in Deep Work. The plan protects focus time, because meetings and email have their own blocks.

### How do I start time blocking?
Block your most important work first, in the hours you focus best, usually the morning. Then add meetings, batch email and admin into one or two blocks, and leave a buffer block for whatever comes up. Plan tomorrow at the end of today.

### How long should a time block be?
60 to 90 minutes works for deep work; shorter blocks rarely let you settle in. Admin and email fit in 30-minute blocks. Leave 15 minutes between big blocks.

### What if my day doesn't go to plan?
It won't, and that's fine. When a block runs over, re-plan the rest of the day in a minute rather than abandoning it. Comparing the plan with where the time actually went is where the lessons are.

### How do I see where my day actually went?
Timecard tracks every app and website on your Mac and prints the day as a timecard every evening, so you can hold your time-blocked plan against what really happened.

### How many weeks are in a lifetime?
An 80-year life is about 4,174 weeks, since a year is 52.18 weeks. At the US life expectancy of 79, it's about 4,122.

### What is a life calendar?
A grid with one square for every week of a life, usually one row per year. It became popular after Tim Urban's Your Life in Weeks essay on Wait But Why. Filling in each week makes time feel finite in a way numbers don't.

### How is my number of weeks worked out?
From your birthday to today, divided by 7, rounded down. Weeks left use an 80-year grid. Nothing you enter leaves your browser.

### How many of my weeks go to screens?
Enter your daily screen time and the grid colours that share of your remaining weeks. At the adult average of 6 hours 38 minutes a day, it's about 40% of your waking hours. The screen time calculator turns that into years.

### How can I see how much time I've spent on YouTube?
YouTube doesn't show a lifetime total. Download your watch history from Google Takeout (YouTube and YouTube Music, history only), then drop watch-history.json into this calculator. It adds up every video since you turned history on.

### Is the watch time exact?
It's an estimate. The history lists each video and when you opened it, not how long you watched. Each video counts as the time until the next one started, capped at a limit you choose (20 minutes by default), so a binge counts in full and a video left playing overnight doesn't.

### Is my watch history uploaded anywhere?
No. The file is read by JavaScript in this page, on your device. Nothing is sent to a server, and closing the tab clears it.

### Does it include YouTube Music and Shorts?
Yes, if they're in your history. YouTube Music plays and Shorts are in the same watch-history file. Ads are left out, and videos that were later removed are skipped because the history no longer has their details.

### Why are some years missing?
Takeout only has what your watch history kept. If history was paused, auto-delete was on, or you watched signed out, those videos aren't in the file.

### How do I see how many hours I've watched on Netflix?
Request your data at netflix.com/account/getmyinfo. The download includes CONTENT_INTERACTION/ViewingActivity.csv with the start time and duration of every play. Drop it into this calculator for your total hours.

### What's the difference between the two Netflix files?
Viewing activity › Download all gives NetflixViewingHistory.csv right away, with each title and date but no durations, so each title is counted as 40 minutes. The personal information request takes longer but gives ViewingActivity.csv with exact durations.

### Are trailers and previews counted?
No. Rows Netflix marks as trailers, hooks or other supplemental video are left out, so autoplay previews don't inflate your total.

### Can I see one profile?
Yes. ViewingActivity.csv covers every profile on the account. When there's more than one, pick a profile from the menu above the results.

### What time zone are the times in?
Netflix records start times in UTC. The calculator converts them to your device's time zone for the hour-of-day chart.

### How do I see my total Spotify listening time?
Request your data under Spotify › Account › Privacy › Download your data. Account data covers the last year; Extended streaming history covers every year. Drop the StreamingHistory or Streaming_History_Audio JSON files here.

### Is it the same number as Spotify Wrapped?
Close, but not always identical. Wrapped uses Spotify's own cut-off dates and rules. This adds up the milliseconds played in your files, for any date range, including podcasts and plays after Wrapped's cut-off.

### Do skipped songs count?
Yes, for the seconds they actually played. A song skipped after 10 seconds adds 10 seconds.

### Are podcasts and audiobooks included?
Yes. Episodes count under the show's name, next to your artists.

### Is there an official Screen Time Wrapped?
No. Apple doesn't make a yearly Screen Time recap, which is why people build them with Shortcuts. This one works in your browser from the daily averages Screen Time already shows.

### Where do I find my Screen Time numbers?
On iPhone, open Settings › Screen Time › See All App & Website Activity and choose Week. The daily average is at the top, with your most used apps and pickups below.

### How is the yearly number worked out?
Your daily average × 365. Screen Time only keeps a few weeks of history, so a recent weekly average is the best way to estimate the year.

### Is my data stored anywhere?
Only in the page's address, so you can share a link to your Wrapped. Nothing is sent to a server.

### Can I get an exact Wrapped for my Mac?
macOS Screen Time keeps about four weeks. Timecard keeps every day of your Mac screen time, app by app and site by site, forever, so the year is a sum, not an estimate.

### When does my Claude usage limit reset?
Every plan uses a rolling five-hour session window. It starts with your first message and resets five hours later, then the next message opens a new window. Pro, Max and Team also have a weekly limit that resets at a fixed day and time shown in Settings › Usage.

### What's the difference between Claude Pro and Max limits?
Pro is $20 a month ($17 a month billed yearly). Max 5x is $100 a month with five times Pro's usage per session, and Max 20x is $200 a month with twenty times. Anthropic doesn't publish a fixed message count, because usage depends on the model, the length of the conversation and the features you use.

### What can I do when I hit the limit?
Wait for the reset, move to a higher plan, or turn on usage credits to keep working at standard API rates.

### When do Codex limits reset?
On ChatGPT Plus, Codex has a five-hour window and a weekly limit. On Pro there's no five-hour limit, but a weekly limit can apply. Your exact reset times are on the Codex usage dashboard, or run /status in the Codex CLI.

### Can I see my real usage without checking?
Timecard reads the limits Claude Code and Codex already cache on your Mac and shows how much is used and when each resets, with alerts at 80% and 95%.

### How much does Claude Code cost?
With a Pro or Max plan it's the plan price: $20, $100 or $200 a month, up to the plan's limits. On the API you pay per token. Opus 5.5 is $4 per million input tokens and $20 per million output tokens, with cache reads at $0.20 and cache writes at $5.

### Why do cache reads matter so much?
Every turn of an agentic session re-sends the conversation so far. Claude caches it, and cached tokens cost a twentieth of normal input on Opus 5.5, but there are a lot of them. In long sessions they're usually most of the tokens and a big share of the bill.

### Is a Max plan cheaper than the API?
If your usage would cost more than the plan on the API and still fits within the plan's limits, yes. Max 5x includes five times Pro's per-session usage and Max 20x twenty times. Heavy days can hit the five-hour or weekly limit, so compare your real usage, not a guess.

### How do I see my real token usage?
API users can run /cost in Claude Code for the current session. Timecard reads the history Claude Code and Codex keep on your Mac and adds up tokens and API value for every session, day and project.

### Are these prices current?
They're Anthropic's list prices as of October 2026, for five-minute prompt caching. Haiku 5.5 costs more for prompts over 100,000 tokens.

### What is the Pomodoro technique?
A way to work in short, timed rounds, created by Francesco Cirillo in the late 1980s: 25 minutes of focus, a 5-minute break, and a longer break after four rounds. The timer makes starting easier and the breaks stop focus from fading.

### Does the timer keep running in another tab?
Yes. It counts from the clock, not from the tab, so it stays right while you work in other apps. Turn on notifications and macOS shows one when a round ends.

### How long should a focus session be?
25 minutes is the classic length and a good start. For deep work, many people prefer 50 minutes on and 10 off. Set any length from 1 to 180 minutes.

### Are my sessions saved?
Today's finished sessions stay in this browser, with the task and the time. Nothing is sent anywhere.

### Can I see where my focus actually went?
Timecard tracks every app and website on your Mac, counts deep work runs of 25 minutes or more, and prints your day as a timecard each evening.

### What is the 20-20-20 rule?
Every 20 minutes you look at a screen, look at something about 20 feet away for at least 20 seconds. Eye care groups such as the American Academy of Ophthalmology recommend it to ease digital eye strain.

### Does the 20-20-20 rule work?
It relaxes the focusing muscles and reminds you to blink, which helps the tired, dry eyes that come from long screen sessions. It doesn't correct vision. If your eyes hurt or your vision changes, see an eye doctor.

### Why 20 feet?
At about 20 feet, your eyes focus close to infinity, so the muscles that work hard for near focus can relax. A window, the far end of a room or a hallway works.

### Will the reminders work while I'm in another app?
Turn on notifications and keep this tab open in any window. The timer keeps time from the clock, and macOS shows the reminder over your other apps.

### How do you calculate the cost of a meeting?
Add up the hourly pay of everyone in the room and multiply by the meeting's length in hours. For salaries, hourly pay is the yearly salary divided by 2,080, the hours in a 40-hour work year.

### How much does a weekly meeting cost a year?
The cost of one meeting × about 50 weeks. A 30-minute weekly meeting of six people on $90,000 costs about $130 each time and about $6,500 a year, in salary alone.

### Does it include benefits and overhead?
No. It counts pay only, so the real cost is higher once benefits, office costs and the work that didn't happen are included.

### How can I make meetings cheaper?
Invite fewer people, end at 25 or 50 minutes, and send an agenda first so a meeting can become a written update when it doesn't need discussion.

### Is this timesheet template free?
Yes. Download it as many times as you like, for Excel, Google Sheets, Numbers or print. There's no sign-up and nothing you type is sent anywhere.

### Does the Excel timesheet calculate hours automatically?
Yes. Each day's hours are clock out minus clock in, minus the break, and shifts past midnight work too. Each week adds up, anything over 40 hours counts as overtime at time and a half, and gross pay uses your hourly rate.

### How do I use it in Google Sheets?
Download the CSV, then in Google Sheets choose File › Import › Upload and pick the file. The daily hours, weekly totals and pay are formulas, so they update as you type times like 9:00 and 17:30. Or upload the Excel file to Google Drive and open it with Sheets.

### Which pay period should I pick?
Match your payroll. Weekly suits hourly jobs paid every week, every two weeks is the most common US pay schedule, and monthly suits freelancers who invoice once a month. Overtime is counted per 7-day week in every version.

### Can I track hours without filling in a timesheet?
On a Mac, Timecard records when you start and stop using your computer and prints each day as a timecard, so the hours are there when you need them.

### How do I convert hourly pay to a yearly salary?
Hourly rate × hours a week × weeks a year. At 40 hours and 52 weeks, that's the hourly rate × 2,080: $20 an hour is $41,600 a year and $30 an hour is $62,400.

### How do I convert a salary to an hourly rate?
Divide the yearly salary by the hours you work in a year. For a 40-hour week, divide by 2,080: $60,000 a year is $28.85 an hour.

### How much is biweekly pay?
Yearly pay divided by 26. $52,000 a year is $2,000 every two weeks. Paid twice a month, it's divided by 24 instead: $2,166.67.

### How is overtime added?
Under US federal law, non-exempt employees earn at least time and a half for hours over 40 a week. Five overtime hours a week at $25 adds 5 × $37.50 × 52 weeks, which is $9,750 a year.

### Is this before or after tax?
Before tax. Take-home pay depends on federal, state and local taxes and your deductions.

### What is the ⌘ symbol on a Mac?
⌘ is the Command key, the main modifier for Mac shortcuts: ⌘C copies and ⌘V pastes. The symbol is a looped square, sometimes called the cloverleaf, and its Unicode name is Place of Interest Sign (U+2318).

### What do ⌥, ⇧ and ⌃ mean?
⌥ is Option (Alt on other keyboards), ⇧ is Shift, and ⌃ is Control. In menus, Apple writes them in this order: Control, Option, Shift, Command, so Shift-Command-4 appears as ⇧⌘4.

### How do I type the Apple logo?
Press Option-Shift-K on a US keyboard. The logo is a private character that only shows up on Apple devices; on Windows and Android it may appear as a blank box.

### How do I type other symbols on a Mac?
Press Control-Command-Space to open the Emoji & Symbols viewer, or use Option combinations: Option-hyphen types an en dash and Option-Shift-hyphen an em dash.

### How do I test my Mac keyboard?
Open this page and press every key once. Each key turns blue when your Mac reports it. A key that stays white when pressed isn't registering; one that stays lit after you let go may be sticking.

### Why don't fn and Touch ID light up?
macOS handles the fn (Globe) key, Touch ID and the brightness and media functions itself, so they never reach a web page. That doesn't mean they're broken.

### Why do some ⌘ shortcuts do something else?
macOS and the browser keep some Command shortcuts, like ⌘Tab, ⌘Q and ⌘W, for themselves. Press ⌘ on its own to test the key.

### Does it work with external keyboards?
Yes. Any keyboard connected to the Mac works, including Magic Keyboard and mechanical keyboards. Windows keyboards report the Windows key as ⌘ and Alt as ⌥.

### How much time does the average person spend on social media?
2 hours 21 minutes a day, according to DataReportal's Digital 2025 report, based on GWI survey data of internet users aged 16 and over. In the US the figure is 2 hours 16 minutes, and in Brazil it's 3 hours 49 minutes.

### How do I see how much time I spend on each app?
On iPhone, open Settings › Screen Time › See All App & Website Activity. Instagram also shows a daily average under Settings › Your activity › Time spent. On a Mac, Timecard tracks every app and website, including social sites in the browser.

### How is the lifetime number worked out?
Your daily total × the years you have left to a US life expectancy of 79, shown as round-the-clock years. 2 hours a day from age 25 is about 4.5 years.

### How do I spend less time on social media?
Set a daily limit instead of deleting apps: an allowance is easier to keep than a ban. Turn off notifications, move apps off the home screen, and keep the phone out of the bedroom. On a Mac, Timecard can block a site once its daily limit runs out.

### How do I find a meeting time across time zones?
Line up each city's hours against one base city, then look for the hours that fall inside working hours everywhere. With New York and London, that's 9 to 12 in New York, which is 2 to 5 in London.

### Does it handle daylight saving time?
Yes. Times come from your browser's time zone database, so they're right for the date you pick, including the weeks when the US and Europe change clocks on different dates.

### What if there's no hour that works for everyone?
The planner picks the hour with the fewest people outside working hours and nobody in the middle of the night. Rotating the inconvenient slot between teams is fairer than always asking the same city to stay late.

### Can I share the plan?
The page's address keeps your cities, date and chosen hour, so you can send the link. Copy times gives a list for a message, and Add to Google Calendar creates the event.

### What is a Unix timestamp?
The number of seconds that have passed since 00:00:00 UTC on 1 January 1970, called the Unix epoch, not counting leap seconds. It's the same everywhere in the world, which is why computers store time this way.

### Is my timestamp in seconds or milliseconds?
Count the digits. Today, timestamps in seconds have 10 digits and milliseconds have 13. JavaScript's Date.now() returns milliseconds; most Unix tools and APIs use seconds. The converter detects which one you pasted.

### How do I make a Discord timestamp?
Write <t:TIMESTAMP:STYLE> in a message, with the timestamp in seconds. <t:1767225600:R> shows a relative time such as "in 2 hours" or "3 days ago", and <t:1767225600:F> the full date and time. Each person sees it in their own time zone.

### What is the year 2038 problem?
Systems that store Unix time as a signed 32-bit number run out at 2147483647, which is 03:14:07 UTC on 19 January 2038. After that the number wraps negative. Most modern systems use 64-bit time and aren't affected.

### How is words per minute calculated?
Correctly typed characters, including spaces, divided by 5, divided by the minutes of the test. 200 correct characters in 60 seconds is 40 WPM. Raw WPM counts every character you typed, right or wrong.

### What is a good typing speed?
Around 40 WPM is a common average for adults, 60 to 80 is fast, and professional typists often pass 100. Accuracy matters as much: fixing mistakes costs more time than typing a little slower.

### How can I type faster?
Learn to touch type with your fingers on the home row and stop looking at the keyboard. Practise accuracy first, in short daily sessions, and speed follows.

### Is my score saved?
Your personal best stays in this browser. Nothing is sent anywhere.

### Is Timecard a replacement for Screen Time?
It can be, on your Mac. Most people keep Screen Time for their iPhone and family, and use Timecard for the Mac: every website in every browser, history forever, and limits that block outside Safari. Timecard reads your Screen Time limits, so the two work together.

### Does Screen Time on Mac track websites?
Mainly in Safari. Time in Chrome, Arc or Brave mostly shows up as the browser itself. Timecard splits time in those browsers into the real websites.

### How long does Screen Time keep history on a Mac?
About four weeks. Timecard imports those weeks when you first open it, then keeps everything from then on, for as long as you use it.

### Is there a RescueTime alternative without a subscription?
Yes. Timecard is a one-time purchase for Mac with automatic app and website tracking, history kept forever and daily limits. ActivityWatch is free and open source if you need Windows or Linux.

### Does Timecard work on Windows?
No. Timecard is Mac only, macOS 14 or later. If you need Windows or a phone in the same reports, RescueTime covers those.

### Can I import my RescueTime history?
Not directly. Timecard imports the weeks of history macOS Screen Time already kept on your Mac, so you start with some history on day one.

### Is Timing Mac only?
Yes, Timing is a Mac app, like Timecard. Both track apps and websites automatically.

### Which is better for freelancers?
If you invoice clients by project, Timing's projects and timesheets are built for that. If you want to know where your hours go and protect focus time, Timecard is simpler and costs less.

### Does Timecard sync between Macs?
No. Each Mac keeps its own history locally. A licence covers the number of Macs you buy it for.

### Is there a Rize alternative without a subscription?
Timecard is a one-time purchase for Mac with automatic tracking, daily limits that block and AI coding usage, and no account.

### Does Timecard use AI?
On macOS 26, Apple Intelligence on your Mac writes the daily brief, answers questions about your time and decides requests for more time. Nothing is sent to a server.

### Does Timecard work on Windows?
No, Timecard is Mac only. Rize supports Mac and Windows.

### Is there automatic time tracking without timers?
Yes. Timecard records every app and website on your Mac automatically, with breaks detected after three minutes without input.

### Can Timecard track billable hours?
Timecard shows when you punched in and out and where the time went, but it doesn't do projects or invoices. For client billing, Toggl Track or Timing fit better.

### Is Toggl Track free?
Toggl Track has a free plan with timers and basic features. Paid plans start at $9 per user a month billed yearly, or $12 billed monthly.

### Is ActivityWatch good on Mac?
It works on Mac and is free. You view data in your browser, and website tracking needs an extension for Chrome or Firefox. Timecard is a native Mac app that covers more browsers without extensions.

### Do both keep data local?
Yes. Neither needs an account, and both keep activity on your machine.

### Why pay for Timecard?
For a native app with limits that block, AI coding usage, history imported from Screen Time and a daily card, for a one-time price.

### Can Timecard track Claude Code and Codex usage?
Yes. It reads their local history and shows time, tokens and API value per session and project, plus how close you are to your plan's limits.

### Does Timecard need editor plugins?
No. It tracks the editor as an app and reads AI tools' local history, so there's nothing to install in each editor.

### Is WakaTime free?
WakaTime has a free plan with one week of dashboard history. Paid plans start at $8.25 a month billed yearly.

### Can Timecard block websites on a schedule?
Timecard blocks by daily limits rather than schedules. If you need a fixed schedule across all your devices, Freedom does that.

### Can I use Freedom and Timecard together?
Yes. Freedom can handle scheduled blocks on every device while Timecard tracks your Mac and enforces daily limits.

### Does Freedom track screen time?
No. Freedom says it doesn't track your browsing, app usage or activity.

### Does Opal work on Mac?
Yes. Opal runs on iPhone, Android and Mac.

### Can Timecard block apps on my iPhone?
No. Timecard runs on the Mac. It reads the limits you set in Screen Time on your iPhone, but blocking happens on the Mac.

### Is there a cheaper Opal alternative for Mac?
Timecard is a one-time purchase for Mac with daily limits that block apps and websites, plus full tracking and AI coding usage.

### Does Timecard need an editor plugin?
No. It tracks your editor as an app and reads AI tools' local history directly, so there's nothing to install in VS Code, Cursor or anywhere else.

### Which AI coding tools does it read?
Claude Code, Codex, Cursor, opencode and Gemini CLI. It shows time, tokens, models, projects and API value, and alerts you before a Claude or Codex plan limit.

### Does my code or chat history leave my Mac?
No. Timecard reads the files on your Mac and keeps the numbers locally. It never uploads your code or conversations.

### Can Timecard invoice clients?
No. Timecard shows where your time went, but it doesn't do projects, rates or invoices. If you bill by project, Timing or Toggl Track are built for that.

### Do I need to start a timer?
No. Tracking is automatic from when your Mac is in use, with idle time ignored.

### Does it work offline?
Yes. Tracking runs entirely on your Mac, with no account and no connection needed.

### Can I still watch lectures on YouTube?
Yes. Ask for time and explain it's for class. On macOS 26 Apple Intelligence decides; you can also turn on Pick a time instead of asking to skip the chat.

### Does it work on older Macs?
Tracking and limits work on macOS 14 and later. Asking Apple Intelligence for time needs macOS 26 with Apple Intelligence turned on.

### Does anyone else see my data?
No. There's no account, and everything stays on your Mac.

### Does Timecard report to my employer?
No. There's no account, and your activity stays on your Mac, where only you see it.

### Does it count meetings?
Yes. Video and calls keep counting even without keyboard or mouse input.

### What if I work past midnight?
Set when your day ends in Settings, and late-night work counts toward the day before.

### How do I see my screen time on a Mac?
System Settings › Screen Time shows a few weeks of app use. Timecard shows every app and website, in every major browser, with history kept forever.

### How do I block a website on Mac in Chrome?
Screen Time's website limits only work in Safari. Set a daily limit in Timecard and it blocks the site in Chrome, Arc, Brave, Edge and other supported browsers when time runs out.

### How do I reduce screen time on my MacBook?
Look at a week of real numbers first, then put a daily limit on the one or two sites or apps that take the most free time. Timecard nudges you at 80% and blocks at 100%, in every major browser, not just Safari.

### What's a good screen time goal?
Start with your real number for a week, then cut the one or two sites that take the most leisure time, by 20 to 30 minutes a day. Small, specific limits stick better than big ones.

### How does Timecard measure deep work?
Deep work is every run of 25 minutes or more in your Productivity apps and sites, allowing interruptions shorter than a minute. The card shows the day's total, the longest run and how many times you switched apps.

### Can it block distractions during focus time?
Timecard uses daily limits rather than focus sessions. Give each distraction a daily budget, and it blocks when the budget is gone.

### Is my data private?
Yes. There's no account, and your activity stays in one file on your Mac.

### How do I check my Claude Code usage?
Claude Code's own commands show the session in front of you. Timecard reads the history Claude Code keeps on your Mac and adds up every session: time, tokens, models, projects and API value, for any range of days.

### When does Claude Code usage reset?
Claude plans reset on rolling windows. Timecard shows how much of each limit you've used and exactly when it resets, and can notify you at 80% and 95% and when it resets.

### Does it track Codex and Cursor too?
Yes: Claude Code, Codex, Cursor, opencode and Gemini CLI, read from the history each keeps on your Mac.

### Does my code leave my Mac?
No. Timecard only reads local files and keeps the numbers on your Mac. It never uploads code or conversations.

### How do I block a website on Mac in Chrome?
Screen Time's website limits don't apply in Chrome. Use a blocker that works in Chrome, like Timecard: set a daily limit on the site, and the tab goes blank when the time runs out.

### How do I block websites on Mac with Terminal?
Add a line such as 127.0.0.1 www.example.com to /etc/hosts with sudo nano /etc/hosts, then flush the DNS cache with sudo dscacheutil -flushcache; sudo killall -HUP mDNSResponder. It blocks the site in every browser until you remove the line.

### Is there a free website blocker for Mac?
Yes. Screen Time is free but works in Safari only, the hosts file is free but blocks all the time, and SelfControl is a free open-source blocker for timed sessions. Timecard is a one-time purchase that blocks by daily limits and also tracks your time.

### Can I block apps on Mac, not just websites?
Yes. When an app's daily limit runs out, Timecard covers it with the time's-up screen until you quit it or ask for more time.

### Do I need Full Disk Access to use Timecard?
No. Tracking, cards, limits and the AI page work without it. It's only for importing the history macOS Screen Time already kept and for picking up your Screen Time App Limits.

### Is it safe to give an app Full Disk Access?
It's a broad permission, so only give it to apps you trust. Timecard uses it to read the Screen Time database, keeps what it reads on your Mac, and never uploads your activity.

### Why doesn't Timecard appear in the Full Disk Access list?
Apps only appear once they're added. Click Open Full Disk Access in Timecard, and drag Timecard from the Finder window that opens into the list.

### Why does macOS say Timecard wants to control my browser?
That's macOS's standard wording for apps that talk to another app. Timecard only asks the browser for the front tab's address, and blanks the tab when a limit runs out.

### Can I use Timecard without browser access?
Yes. Turn off website names in Settings and the browser counts as one app, like Screen Time does. Website limits need it to block tabs.

### Why does it ask again after an update?
After Timecard 2.1.4's new signature, 2.1.5 cleared the old browser permission once so macOS would ask again. Click OK when it does.

### Does Timecard send a notification when a daily limit runs out?
It does better: at 80% a nudge comes out of the notch, and at 100% the site or app is blocked with the time's-up screen. Notifications are for AI plan limits and imports.

### Why didn't I get a limit alert?
Check System Settings › Notifications › Timecard is allowed, and that limit alerts are on in Timecard's Settings › AI.

### Does Timecard slow down my Mac at login?
No. It opens in the menu bar and checks the front app once a second, which uses very little power.

### How do I stop Timecard from opening at login?
Turn off Start at login in Settings › General, or remove it in System Settings › General › Login Items.

### Why didn't a website get blocked?
Timecard needs permission to control your browser. Check System Settings › Privacy & Security › Automation and switch on your browser under Timecard. Firefox doesn't allow this, so limits can't block tabs in Firefox.

### When does a limit reset?
When the next day starts. By default that's midnight; if you set Day ends at to a later hour, limits reset then.

### Can I change or remove a limit?
Yes. Open Apps & Sites › Limits, click the app or site, and pick a new time or remove the limit.

### Why didn't my card print?
Timecard prints at the time in Settings › The printer, if it was running and recorded something that day. Without a licence, the card is sealed instead; activate a key and print it from Cards.

### Can I print an old card again?
Yes. Open Cards, pick the day, and print it again. Reprints are free.

### Why does Chrome show instead of websites?
Website names need browser access. Turn them on in Settings › Tracking, then click OK when macOS asks to let Timecard control your browser.

### Does Timecard count time when my Mac is asleep or locked?
No. Sleeping or locking your Mac ends the session, and the clock starts again when you're back.

### Why is my AI page empty?
Timecard reads each tool's own history files. If a tool hasn't been used on this Mac yet, or keeps its history somewhere else, there's nothing to read.

### Is the cost what I'm billed?
No. It's list price for the tokens used, so you can see the value you get from a subscription. Your plan's bill doesn't change.

### I can't find my licence key.
Search your email for the receipt from your purchase. Still missing? Email princeajuzie1@gmail.com from the address you bought with.

### It says the key is already in use.
Every Mac it's active on uses a slot. Remove it from a Mac you no longer use in Settings › Licensed, then try again.

### Can I get a refund?
Email princeajuzie1@gmail.com with the address you bought with.

### Does Timecard upload my screen time?
No. Your activity stays in one file on your Mac. Only anonymous feature counts are sent, and you can turn them off.

### Can my employer see my Timecard data?
No. There's no account and no server with your activity, so only someone using your Mac could see it.

### How do I turn off anonymous usage counts?
Open Settings › General and turn off Share anonymous usage.
